The Detail of the Itinerary
Stop one - West Lake Sightseeing (Including cruise on the water).
West Lake is the No.1 scenic area of Hangzhou and the only world cultural heritage site that travelers do not need to pay the admission fee. West Lake is famous for its cultural landscape in the world. With thousands of years’ preservation and development, West Lake owns lots of the valued and unique relics and sites of history and culture, all of which are splashed in the numerous natural landscapes. Taking a cruise tour is the best option to have an overall view of the West Lake during a limited time.
Approximately, 50 minutes will be taken for the boat trip. And you will see one of the ten top views of the West Lake – THREE POOLS MIRRORING THE MOON (or Santan Yinyue). The towering pagodas under the sunglows, the traditional arch bridges connecting the different themes of landscape, and the verdant islets on the water and the continuous hills afar make the West Lake a special highlight of your experience in China.
Stop two – Manjuelong Village (Viewing the Sweet Osmanthus Rain in this hilly village).
The Sweet Osmanthus Flower was officially selected as the city flower of Hangzhou in 1984, and it is the most famous seasonal flower in autumn time. In 1985, The Sweet Osmanthus Rain at Manjuelong Village (Manlong Guiyu) was ranked the fifth in the list of new ten top classic scenes of the West Lake.
Manjuelong Village is the best place to view the beautiful scene of falling sweet osmanthus flowers. Since Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Manjuelong Village is the place that the sweet osmanthus blooms largely. The village is surrounded by the osmanthus trees. Seemingly, Manjuelong is isolated from the outside. Sweet osmanthus tree is an evergreen native tree in China. The time of the blooming osmanthus flower is around between the late September and early October. The flower is tiny, bright yellow and intoxicatingly fragrant. At its flourishing time, the air of the Manjuelong Village is even heavy with the sweet scent. In autumn period, the weather is so nice and the landscape is so great that the local villagers open their tea booths or houses on both sides of the rugged roads, which is quite suitable for mountainous cycling experience. Travelers over here can not only entertain themselves but taste the special local dish – Osmanthus Flower Soup Mixed with Chestnut.
What’s more, annually, there is a popular festival relevant to the sweet osmanthus flower – West Lake Sweet Osmanthus Festival, which lasts roughly for a month. The people of Hangzhou celebrate the West Lake Sweet Osmanthus Festival in autumn when they appreciate the beauty and sweetness of sweet osmanthus.
The "Man Long Rain of Sweet Osmanthus" is the main scene of the Sweet Osmanthus Festival. Here more than 7,000 sweet osmanthus grow along the road. During the festival more than 200 colorful awnings tidily extend along the two sides of the road while people appreciate sweet osmanthus over their cups of tea, playing cards or chess in awnings or by trees, enjoying themselves.
The West Lake Sweet Osmanthus Festival combined the "Sweet Osmanthus Culture" with the "Tea Culture". For its opening ceremony there are large-scale comprehensive art shows and the Dragon's Well green tea ceremony, along with a symposium of the Late Sweet Osmanthus by Yu Dafu, and a party in memory of Premier Zhou Enlai. To make the festival more accessible to visitors, there are tea ceremonies of the 6 major teas in the country, ikebana performance, storytelling of "Hangzhou's People and Hangzhou's Events", bridge, weiqi, chess arena, mini golf, and children’s games at the Manjue Mount. This attraction locates southwest to the West Lake, on the north bank of Qiantang River and in Wuyun Hill Yunqi Village. “Yunqi” means clouds lingering. It is said that some auspicious color clouds came flying from the nearby Color Clouds Hill and lingered on here, hence the name. Bamboo-Lined Path at Yunqi is well known for its quietness and coolness. One Chinese sweet gum tree is above the age of 1,000. The famous stone paved footpath leading into the Yunqi valley is lined with hundreds of thousands of bamboo. Walking along the path, soon you will meet a pond called Mind Purifying Pond which means “a pure mind”. The water is cool and clear, the hills are quite and beautiful.
Yunqi abounds in tea known as one of top four teas in Hangzhou. The quality of the earth over Yunxi and Meijiawu is very good and is suitable for tea's growth. Therefore, here is the major tea producing area in Hangzhou and is famed all over the world.
In Yunqi, you can enjoy different nice scenes in different seasons. Come in Spring for its bamboo shoots growing among the bamboo forest; in summer for the cool breeze bringing the fragrance of trees; in autumn for its colorful forest over the surrounding hills; in winter for the whole valley clad in white.
